Strangeland owns its Atlas: every record, entry, date, document and receipt in it. Strangeland is a Common Era program, so that ownership sits with Common Era. All of it exports as plain files at any time, from the admin tools.
The technology underneath stays with Signalform: the Atlas software, its configuration, and the tools and methods used to build and tend it. Strangeland gets the use of that technology through the engagement. What it holds is Strangeland’s.
The plan, §1 The termsThe Strangeland Atlas is live at strangeland-atlas.pages.dev, behind a password. It has the leaders and their activations, places, a shared calendar with a feed for phones, needs and offers, private receipts, a log of every change, and a full export.
It’s built on the same base as another live Atlas that about twenty people use in a different cohort, so the foundations have already been tested by people doing real work. The final version, with the shared calendar, resource hub and feedback zone, lands by Friday, October 16.
The plan, §2 Where things standOn Cloudflare. Cloudflare Pages serves the site, and a Cloudflare key-value store holds its records. It opens in any phone or desktop browser with a link and a password. There’s no account to create and no app to install.
During tending it runs on Signalform’s Cloudflare account, and hosting is included in the fee. When the time is right, usually at handoff, it moves to an account in Strangeland’s name. The move takes about a day and changes nothing for the people using it.
The plan, §5 HostingAI is optional, and it never acts on its own. The Atlas is a shared record first: the rooms, every form, the calendar and its feed, receipts and the export all work with the AI switched off.
Two features use AI. Record turns speech into text, using Cloudflare’s built-in AI. Chat uses Anthropic’s Claude. Both run on Signalform’s accounts today, with spending caps, and either can move to accounts in Strangeland’s name. Neither service trains on what goes in.
If the program would rather not use AI at all, both features switch off and nothing else changes.
What the AI can doThe AI works inside the Atlas, from the gold button on any screen. It can:
- ANSWERQuestions about the program. It answers from what’s in the Atlas, and says so when something isn’t there.
- RECORDSpeech into text. Say it out loud and it’s written down for you.
- DRAFTYour own additions. A date, a need, an offer, a place or a note, drafted as a card you add with one tap.
- PROPOSEChanges to shared facts. A new date or a settled question waits for Jaime or Syree to approve.
- FILEFeedback about the Atlas. Saved in the person’s own words, and Signalform sees it.
It can’t change anything by itself, move money, or send messages between people. A person confirms every change.
Where the AI fitsTending covers hosting, upkeep, fixes (usually within two working days), small improvements and copy and content changes, a short monthly note, and support for Syree.
New work is anything new and substantial: a new room or module, an integration with another tool, a major redesign, or the synthesis report Jaime raised. It’s quoted before it starts, separately from tending.
The plan, §6 New workThe final version of the Atlas lands by Friday, October 16, and tending begins Monday, October 19.
From then on, Signalform keeps building in the Atlas and keeps tabs on how it’s used. Signalform is available for contact and check-ins as needed, with Syree, with Jaime, or with both.
Approve on the plan page and confirm who receives the invoices. The first invoice ($2,500) goes to Caravan Projects by email when tending begins, payable by bank transfer within 15 days.
ApproveWho does what, once tending begins:
- SIGNALFORMKeeps it running. Hosting, upkeep, fixes, improvements, the monthly note, and support for Syree.
- SYREERuns it day to day. Approves changes, keeps shared details current, and is the first stop for the leaders.
- JAIMESets direction. Decides priorities and signs off on any new work.
- LEADERSKeep their own pages. Their rows, dates, needs and receipts, and feedback through the Atlas.
Tending runs through the close of the program at the end of February 2027. Then Signalform and Strangeland look at what’s next together.
If the work continues, the Atlas keeps developing from where it is. If it doesn’t, Signalform plans a clean handoff: the hosting moves to Strangeland’s account, the records are exported, and Syree is set up to run it.
The plan, §4 SyreeEach program gets its own Atlas, shaped to how that program actually runs. The work happens in three stages, and the program decides at the end of each one whether to go on.
- FIELD DESIGNMap the work. Two to four weeks of conversations with the people at the centre. The result is a map of who does what, where information lives and the rhythms of the year, plus a first working version in the program’s own words.
- DEPLOYMENTBuild it into the real work. About twelve weeks. The map becomes a working system on infrastructure the program controls, connected to the tools it already uses, with its people trained and everything documented.
- TENDINGKeep it true. Hosting, upkeep and careful changes while the program uses it, until its own people can run it or the work moves on.
Every Atlas starts from the same tested base, so each new program starts faster than the last. Strangeland’s Atlas and the New Frame cohort’s share that base today.
Signalform Studio designs and builds operating systems for organizations doing complicated, people-heavy work. It sits with the people carrying the work, listens to how it actually runs, and builds a system shaped to it, with AI doing the drafting and sorting so people stay on the decisions only they can make.
The studio is led by Mike Marrotte, an experience architect with a decade in strategic communications for complex operations and years of film and video production before that.
- ATLASESStrangeland and New Frame. Shared records for two cohort programs, used daily from phones.
- FSIFrontier Security Institute. Website, brand system, research papers and a three-part film series.
- PRINCIPLESHow it’s built. Your records stay yours. AI proposes and people decide. The core works with the AI switched off.
